Originally it was zoo that until 1987 offered live animals and trainers, kiddie
rides as well as some local eats! There was a railroad that connected Boston to Hudson
which brought many outside visitors to the zoo. In 2002 repairs began on the
Park and in 2010 it was converted into what we now know as Benson’s Park.
The old Lady in the Shoe, the Elephant
House and the Gorilla House are structures from Bensons Animal
Park that have been
restored and incorporated into the new Park. Benson’s Park now has a playground for children, walking trails
with beautiful scenery lots of perennials, a pond, memorial benches and
pavilions. A key attraction is the “911” memorial built from
steel girders from the World Trader Centers tower. It is a pet-friendly park
and can be used by appointment for events such as weddings and birthday
parties.
