Here are some great tips on how you can get rid of squirrels from your South Hudson home for sale on your own, without having to break your bank!

Block Their Entrance

Find out where the squirrels are entering into your South Hudson home’s attic and cover any holes so no more squirrels can get in, except for one so they can use it to exit your home. Cover your chimney with wire mesh if you have one so no more squirrels can get in. Also be sure to secure any openings from your attic to the rest of your South Hudson home so any panic stricken squirrels don’t try to flee into the rest of your home.

You want to make sure every possible entry point is blocked so they don’t regain entry once you have them out!

Create An Exit

Create a funnel out of metal or wire mesh and be sure the funnel is about 1 foot long, an about a foot wide. Attach the wide end of the funnel to the hole on the outside of your South Hudson’s home. Usually if the animal can leave out of the small hole, they will be able to re-enter as well, so just be careful. Try placing some food such as apple slices or peanuts at the hole of the opening to draw the squirrels out, or just wait for them to leave on their own to gather food.

Trapping Squirrels

You can usually find a trap at your local hardware store. When purchasing a trap for a squirrel please keep in mind that in a larger cage the squirrel may begin to panic and harm themselves. Usually a cage that is 6 inches, by 6 inches, by 18 inches will be perfect for a small animal like a squirrel. Read the directions that come with the trap and be sure you know how to set it properly!

Put some food in the cage that appeals to a squirrel such as peanut butter, apple slices, peanuts, soda crackers, or pieces of bread crust otherwise the squirrels may not even go near the trap. Make sure the food is placed far enough inside the cage so the animal can’t grab it through the sides.

Set it up, and wait for the trap to work its magic.

Catch, then Release

Once you have trapped the squirrel, you will need to release it. But first, be sure to check your South Hudson attic for baby squirrels. The babies will be helpless without their mother, and you will need to relocate them with her so they don’t die. The best thing for you to do is relocate them far away from your South Hudson’s home for sale in a wooded area where they can hopefully find their new home in a tree, rather than inside your attic.

Make sure you wear thick heavy gloves when you are releasing the squirrel from the trap. If the squirrel is angry, you wouldn’t want to get bit, or attacked. You can also use a string or rope to open the cage from a distance.

Hiring a home inspector is a very important part of your home buying process. Don't let the house inspection kill the deal! When you are choosing an inspector to check out your South Nashua home for you, be sure to ask them how much experience they have. You don’t want to hire someone with a poor inspection background because they may miss something very important.

Typically, an inspection report is 20 or more pages long. Most inspectors, and Real Estate agents think the buyer should use the inspection to generate a list of repairs that should be accomplished. If the seller is aware of these issues beforehand they should work on any major repairs before they sell their South Nashua home to make it more valuable. If the buyer doesn't like the results of an inspection report, they have the right to ask the owner to fix the items, keep it as is or exit the contract and look for a new home. The overall rating as stated by Niche for the Hudson School District is a B. There are also several private kindergarten and daycares.

Alvirne High School has one of the largest Vocational Programs and has several student run businesses such as a restaurant, bank, dairy farm, store, day-care and forestry program. The dairy farm is a great addition and due to the Hills requiring the land to always be used as a farm. There is also an Adult Day Service through Gateways that is available at Alvirne for seniors and disabled adults looking for cognitive and social stimulation who are also able to provide health services.

The most memorable family landmark in Hudson is Bensons Animal Park. Originally it was zoo that until 1987 offered live animals and trainers, kiddie rides as well as some local eats! There was a railroad that connected Boston to Hudson which brought many outside visitors to the zoo. In 2002 repairs began on the Park and in 2010 it was converted into what we now know as Benson’s Park.

The old Lady in the Shoe, the Elephant House and the Gorilla House are structures from Bensons Animal Park that have been restored and incorporated into the new Park. Benson’s Park now has a playground for children, walking trails with beautiful scenery lots of perennials, a pond, memorial benches and pavilions. A key attraction is the “911” memorial built from steel girders from the World Trader Centers tower. It is a pet-friendly park and can be used by appointment for events such as weddings and birthday parties.

Besides Benson’s Park, Hudson has several other recreational areas for residents and the surrounding communities to enjoy. It is home to 2 recreational lakes/ponds and a swamp for endangered birds. It also has two golf courses for golf enthusiasts: Whip-Poor-Will Golf Club and Green Meadow Golf Club in South Hudson NH.

Robinson Pond is located on the north side of Hudson and has a public beach and boat ramp for town residents. Ottarnic Pond is located near Hudson Center and a boat ramp can be accessed off of Highland Road. The ponds are used for fishing, swimming, boating and ice fishing through the year. You don’t want to pack last minute and be in a time crunch that causes more stress. Ask for help from your family and friends if need be. If the movers have to pack for you there will be an additional cost added to your bill. Also make sure to label all your boxes so you are not searching endlessly for items that you might need after the move to your South Nashua home.

4. Begin using your food that’s been stored in your freezer or pantry.

The less you have to move with you to your new South Nashua home, the better. You can always buy more food after you’re settled in. If there is food you aren’t going to eat, or don't have time to make, donate it to your local food pantry or soup kitchen, it wont go unappreciated or wasted! It will save you time and potentially use items that may have gone unnoticed for a while.

5. Prepare to have your utilities shut off or transferred if they aren't a part of your monthly rent. 

Call your utility companies and give them enough notice so they can get it taken care of before your move. Don’t forget that some companies may have a fee to turn off utilities and transfer them to a different location. Also, some utilities may take a few days to transfer so don't wait until the last second.

6. Start to notify all your credit card companies, schools, banks, doctors, insurance companies, etc. 

They will need to know where you will be moving so they can change that information in their systems. Make sure to send a change of address to the local post office so your mail isn't sent to your previous address. If you have missing bills that could end up being a real problem.

7. Pack a box with necessities!

Items such as toilet paper, hand sanitizer, wipes, paper towels, cleaning products, a hammer and screwdriver, packing tape, a cell phone charger, ziplock bags, paper cups and plates, as well as plastic utensils, a pen and notepad, a first aid kit, snacks and plenty of water to keep hydrated while you are moving. Having a box of all the necessary items in a convenient place will make life so much easier during the first week when you may still be unpacking.

8. Have cash on hand.

You may need cash or a card on the ready to purchase unexpected items that may come up. You never know what is truly going to fit into your new place until you get there. Expect the unexpected! Sometimes your couches and furniture won't fit in the new place due to lack of space or different openings on doors that may be hard to get through.

9. Keep your important papers and documents with you.

You might need them when you are driving, especially if you are moving out of state. You don’t want anything important to be misplaced or packed away where you can’t get ahold of it. If you have valuable items like jewelry or hard to replace items like passports you will want to make sure you keep them handy so they don't disappear. 

10. Always accept help from your family and friends.

Moving can be very stressful so if there is anything they are willing to help you with, let them help! A helping hand is always appreciated, just remember though that they may need you too so be ready to help them when they need it too.
